Round 2 - Coaches Report - Damien Ryde
Sunday 4/5/25
Hope Valley v Glenunga
Round 2 of season 2025 saw the u15.5 boys looking to continue there good start. It was a warm day for the time of year and it the game would be played in blustery conditions with a breeze favouring the southern end. we had 2 players on the bench which allowed us to rotate players regulary to enable them to get a quick recovery before going again.
We won the toss and kicked to the southern end. The boys got into action quickly and were winning the footy in the contests then getting ball out to our runners and delivering it to our forwards. We managed to control the ball for majority of the quarter and hit the scoreboard well
1st Qtr score H.V 6.4 40 Glenunga 1.0 6
2nd qtr was against breeze and the boys were instructed to run the ball into breeze using handballs and short kicks. they did this quite well and once again controlled the ball for majority of the qtr.
Half time score H.V. 11.10 76 Glenunga 2.0 12
Due to the mercy rule the 3rd qtr saw glenunga getting a kick from CHF instead of the normal ball ups that start play, this gave our boys a chance to work on their defensive skills and win the ball back in defense and then work it up the ground to the forwards, they did this well and we managed to outscore Glenunga for the qtr.
3/4 time score H.V 13.13 91 glenunga 3.0 18
The final qtr was more of the mercy rule and more chance for our defense to work on their defensive skills much like the 3rd Qtr.
full time score H.V 15,14 104 Glenunga 6.2 38
We celebrated the win with a rousing version of the club song which was sung with great gusto and enthusiasm in the change rooms.
I was really pleased with the effort put in by all of the boys and every player had an input into the teams great performance. It is a great pleasure to coach this group of young men and watching them improve all of their skill sets. Onto next week now where we prepare to meet Henley FC at Henley where im confident that if the team bring the same application they have been we will be more than competitive,
